Previously, women were restricted from serving in the British Army, but the transformation began with the onset of World War I, as the war effort demanded more support from the home front. The government’s landmark decision to overturn the ban on women participating in ground-to-ground combat situations in 2016 marked their turning point. Nowadays, women can qualify for any role in the British Army and even aspire to join elite forces such as the SAS.
