The Met Gala 2021 came four months too late - but better late than never we say. In true showbiz manner though, even the late scheduling was sure to be symbolic. Falling smack dab in the middle of fashion month, September the 13th brought with it fashion's most prestigious night held at none other than New York's very own Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year's theme, in line with the newest exhibition at the Costume Institute, was: “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”.

A Night to Remember
History stands proof of just how many memorable outfits we've seen on the Met Gala's red carpet. Remember when Lady Gaga outdid herself with those outfit changes in 2019? Or Rihanna's Margiela pope high-fashion look in 2018? You just know that every celebrity guest on the Met list shows up embodying the theme for the year - and this year was all about American fashion.
But, like every year, there's one look that people just can't stop talking about. Don't pretend like you haven't seen the memes! That's right, we're looking at Kim Kardashian's Met look today.
Kim K. Takes Her Met Fashion Seriously
Ever since Ms. Kim served us that iconic Givenchy floral print maternity dress in 2013, the billionaire reality TV star has consistently gone above and beyond expectations with her red carpet choices. Leave it to Kim K. to pull a designer right out of retirement. Remember that to-die-for wet-look raindrop gown? Let's just say Thierry Mugler has had his hands full ever since she served that Met Gala red carpet look in 2019.

So, for 2021, saying that the bar was set high is an understatement.
Kim K. Met Gala Look 2021
The Met Gala - and perhaps any other red carpet - is all about putting your best face forward. And that's what celebrities do. But, what if you can't see their face at all? On top of that, what if you can't see a single inch of skin?
Kim K's Balenciaga stark black haute couture dress with a train and mask to match was unlike anything we've ever seen on the red carpet. On a night when celebrities try to show as much skin as possible (Ms. Kim included), the look cast darkness on the fashion icon's world-famous physique and obscured her features.

Though she entered the gala with a matching Demna Gvasalia - the Balenciaga designer - on her arm, the crowd was left guessing who could be inside the stark black head-to-toe ensemble. It wasn't until her sister Kendall was spotted with her that onlookers connected the dots. Still, even after a month of the event, people can't help but speculate that perhaps the person in the dress wasn't even the real Kim Kardashian.
We don't know about you but we found the outfit pretty mysterious, inventive, and exciting!
