The Paris Fashion Week is a popular event among fashion lovers. The event is basically a series of presentations from designers that are held twice every year in the French capital. There is the spring/summer collection and the autumn/winter collections that are at the center of all attention. World-famous premium lifestyle brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, Celine, Givenchy, etc., host their shows in places that have historical significance such as the Grand Palais and the Carrousel du Louvre. Though the New York Fashion Week has always been a powerhouse once, the post-Covid-19 era has been a witness to the rise of European shows. Here is what you wanted to know regarding the PFW that started on February 28.
Why is Paris Fashion Week So Special?
Paris is home to the first-ever organized fashion week held by the fashion industry. It was started in 1973. The fashion event is a rendezvous that’s absolutely unmissable for those who love fashion, not only in France but from any corner of the globe. The official name of the Paris Fashion week is Semaine des Createurs de Mode. The vents are generally divided into three main categories - Haute Couture, Ready-to-Wear, and Menswear. The term Haute Couture is protected by IPC or intellectual property copyright.
In order to attain the eligibility to participate in the Parish Fashion Week, the fashion houses have to fulfill the criteria set by the famous Chamber of the Haute Couture. There are many rules like the houses need to create a minimum of 35 looks throughout a year, including both day and nightwear. Only a few fashion houses attain the eligibility and can be considered as a producer of Haute Couture collections. The Paris Fashion Week boasts of more than 100 shows from famous fashion houses from all parts of the world. It is organized by the French Fashion Federation.
Vaquera Makes an Entry
Bryn Taubensee and Patric DiCaprio from New York introduced their experimental collection in the Paris Fashion Week last Monday. The line boasts of a massive ensemble of latex and denim looks, huge white platforms, leg warmers with cropped coats, and underwear to go with them ruled the roost. The models looked out of the world while they gave their customary Vaquera walk on the ramp. The attendees too were in for a treat. Dover Street Market in Paris is known to have invested in the Paris show. It has certainly helped the emerging but popular and influential brands to attain a better commercial appeal.
Dries Van Noten Makes Debut
Just a few days before he was supposed to present his 2022 collection at the Paris Fashion Week, Dries Van Noten uncovered his line of fragrances and makeup in mixed prints packaging, an art he is said to be a master of. The Belgian designer introduced a series of print combinations for fall ‘22. The collection boasts animal-on-animal prints that have caught the eyes of many. This will surely have a cult following later on.
Christian Dior Blends Beauty and Protection
Everyone was looking forward to what Christian Dior has up their sleeves. The Tuesday show was a bit on the somber side. Maria Grazia Chiuri laid emphasis on blending beauty and protection. This somehow signified the tough times that the war between Russia and Ukraine has brought. With that being said, the collection was assembled long before the war broke out. Dior’s models donned a series of protective gear and that made it hard not to think of the ongoing war.
According to Chiuri, the world was already at war even before the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Covid was really a different form of war that has given mankind some of the toughest times ever. The collection has reflected on those times and more. The latest designs have been created with the target of seeking solutions that can be appropriate for women’s bodies. The Bar jacket, an iconic creation from Christian Dior has been reworked as well. Inside the jacket, there is a heating system, while on the outside, you get a futuristic look. Emotional and physical protection has always been the primary aim of the clothes from Christian Dior.
There are a few more days left for the event to get over. But until then, fashion lovers can indeed look out for some more excitement.
